An onset of a tempest brews within, when people put on a veil of ignorance,
when unruly waves of indifference drowns many in its flow,
when plunderers in the guise of rulers silently kill,
we lament the gradual death of the soul.
Oh ! Did your freedom go in vain, in the eons of time?
The martyrs who valiantly chose to rest on your earthy bosom,
whose widows swallowed silent tears,
when the infinite sea of fighters united
to drape you in the tranquil costume of freedom.
Not all is lost, dear Mother
a glimmer of hope quells the darkness,
when selfless crusaders stride on a march
chanting slogans of equality for all
with a dream to see you, O Mother!
In your natural splendour,
where the belly’s don’t feel the hunger,
children tread on a path of knowledge,
a women is not robbed of her dignity,
where home is not a privilege of a few,
where the only religion followed is that of
humanity and brotherhood
where love and peace dwell for eternity.
Let’s join hands together to realise this dream
to make our motherland proud of all her children.

Good morning with sunshine and joy to you Radhika.
The image is awesome with beautiful variation in it.
On way to college.. its going to be very simple but compulsory too. Nothing grand like the school.
Feeling sad for those poor people who dont even know its our Independence day as their priorites in life are different.

What a beautiful message conveyed, thinking on almost the same lines since yesterday and this year not having that enthusiastic feel to greet or reply any Independence day message. I would greet when these dreams are fulfilled along a few others.

I saw the movie Gandhi for the 3rd or 4th time. Today being independence day, again i had one more opportunity to see it.
It was against the backdrop clouding my mind, i saw your blog. Our country is unique, so are the people. The blog is a prayer, prayer from the heart.
It reminds me of Tagore’s immortal lines which say ” where the mind is without fear, and the head held high……….” which we learnt in school.I dont remember the full text. Can anyone pl. enlighten me?

Gandhi was a great movie made…..a good reminder of the struggles our leaders undertook to help us breathe the air of freedom.
Yes, this poem is a heartfelt prayer from my heart as well as many fellow Indians, having the same dreams.
Tagore’s epic poem, where the mind is without fear….. a poem which every Indian looks up to.

Very nice, Radhika. We say that we are free, independent. But, the reality is what you have written in this poem. Loved narration of those facts in this poem.
