*
Childhood Days
Under the open sky, with plenty of moments of leisure
we spent a handful of beautiful years, our childhood!
*
Playing all day long in the blazing sun, along with friends
without a bother of time nor studies.
*
Puff puff went our train, our paper boats sailed in the rain water
Catching butterflies, stealing mangoes from the neighbour’s garden
Oh! those were days of sheer bliss.
*
In spite of the teachers caning, and punishing us in class
we had no issues or complaints.
*
I still remember Dad’s scolding,
then carrying us on his shoulder for an outing,
and mom’s finger licking cooking.
*
Our dreams, happiness and necessities, all were small,
Can someone return my bygone days of childhood ?

I can follow a little bit of Marathi as I studied in Bombay. But it’s been ages since I have had any touch with the language!

Okay here it is

This is so beautiful Kiran, though it took me some time to read it :). Quite similar to the one I posted. It describes the summer vacations so beautifully. The playful days, food, grandparents love, the fear of the exam results, the bedtime tales……..all so lovely 🙂 !! Thanks for sharing Kiran 🙂 I hope my understanding of the language is good !

Carefree childhood with its simple eccentricities and fun-filled days, all a figment of the past. Brought back many memories of playing in the sun, eating with filthy hands anything that we can lay our hands on, climbing trees and what not! Thank you, Radhika, for taking me back to revisit those bygone days of happy childhood!

Come to think of it, seriously my mother was never so strict about washing hands before eating. But we hardly fell sick. But today I get paranoid if my kids ever forget washing their hands when they come from outside!
Glad that this poem kindled beautiful memories of your childhood 😊😊

I can so totally agree. Wonder if the germs and unheard diseases have also gone on an overdrive these days as viral infections pop out of nowhere and I sometimes wonder if the overuse of disinfectants and hand wash has something to do with it.

Could be! I have noticed that people who go overboard about hygiene are more susceptible to falling sick as it weakens their immune system. I am at times totally confused as to where to draw the line😥

No doubt about that. Sadly when we are kids, we are in a hurry to grow up. But now we keep visiting our childhood days to relive those beautiful moments 😊 Great to have you over. Thanks
