Parenting

The tiny bundle of joy is placed in your arms and you are elated to become proud parents! An absolute joyous moment isn’t it? You come home planning how you are going to raise your little one to be a perfect child. Welcome to the world of parenting 🙂 🙂

Your perfect plan goes for a toss in the initial few days itself, when the little one decides to wail the entire night and you desperately try everything that your hassled mind can think of to pacify the tiny soul.

Just when you start feeling a little confident of managing to tackle all the baby issues, your little one is now a hyper infant exploring everything around him with his hands, feet and tongue ;-). You finally give up, trying to make the house baby friendly! No matter how much you plan, he always finds something new to try his hands on.

You are all excited about his first day at school. When gradually his crying bouts subside, the teacher’s complaints starts to pour in about how naughty your child is. You are at your wits end trying to channelize his hyper energy. You reach out to fellow parents for solutions to control his temper tantrums. The doctor or google too, are of not much help.

Then comes the phase of the tumultuous teenage! No matter what you do or don’t, it never finds you in the good books of your gawky teenager. You fail to understand why following simple rules don’t make any sense to them. In their eyes, you’ve suddenly become a conservative and old fashioned parent who has no idea of what “being cool”means! 😉

You wonder how your parents brought you up, Isn’t it ? The role of parents is the most complex and challenging one, to be performed 24/7, 365 days a year, without a break, with overtime thrown in when the child is unwell. The situation has all the chances of going volatile without any warning!

There is no manual on parenting. Each child is different from another. Hence the way of bringing up the child will also differ.  It totally depends on your tact and ingenious skills to make parenting an enjoyable experience. In spite of all the hiccups we as parents face, the sheer joy of seeing our young ones blossom into unique individuals surpasses all the hurdles we experience. Enjoy the journey of parenting scripting your own manual!

  1. Well Radhika! There is no end too knowing what parenting is. Children do not realise how much stress and efforts has gone in to raise then.
In short you have covered everything .
Ultimately it is the bundle of joy that makes the balance.

    1. Good morning Shiva. This is one journey that involves unlimited patience, sacrifices, efforts and unconditional love to see a positive result. But I guess, at the end it is all worth it🙂🙂
      Have a great Sunday!!

  2. It is a great experience when you hold your newborn child. An even more thrilling moment is when you see your first grand child. Grandparents, without the pressure of running the family, can play a more important role in the growth and development of grandchildren, dispite the break-up of joint families.

    1. Absolutely! Grandparents play a great role to fill in the gaps with all their love and experience as the parents are busy with work.
Will definitely look up your blog! Thank you so much for stopping by.
      Have a nice day!

  3. Well written Radhika. If only the kids understand the parents opinions and perspectives,…And of course the kids would say the same… Each stage is a different stage in a kid’s life and also a different experience of parenting life it should be a win win for both 😗

  4. Wow, Wow, Wow, Radhika! The raw facts of parenting, so very well expressed. The first paragraphs made so much sense as I am right there, however, teenage is one area that I am yet to tackle. AT the end of every single day I am a day older with a new piece of parenting knowledge. Yet, in all this craziness, as you have very well explained, it is wonderful to see them grow into individuals.

  5. Radhika the alarm clock one is perfectly suitable for me. I showed it to my daughter and we both enjoyed a good laugh. Since that’s what happens at my home! 🙂

  6. Well said Radhika!! “there is no manual for parenting”.
Not a parent but I couldn’t agree with you more!
You’re so right, it’s a job with no break 🙂
I cannot thank my parents enough and the one thing I tell myself (those rare times) is they are human too….they are doing their best and for that I’ll always be grateful 🙂
    Wonderful article Radhika 🙂

  7. Definately there is no manual or rules for parenting …it’s quite normal that our parents try to bring us up in way their parents did but I would like to say that things change with time too.
I think our parents should listen and try to understand us especially in the teenages they should also change their thoughts with time.
Parents should be friendly with children in their teenaged. .The first 12 years of the child matter the way in which parents bring up their children..whenever it comes to parenting I think you are the best Dear Radhika Di.😊. ..have a nice day

    1. Thanks a lot dear Kiran for the
      lovely compliment. You rightly
said, we cannot bring up our kids the way our parents brought us up. It is prudent to change parenting styles with changing times. Being a
friend and confidant with your growing up kids is what is required today. Once that rapport is built, everything else falls into place.
      Have a great week 🙂💙

  8. I very much enjoyed this. My oldest is a strong willed child very smart but needs to learn in a very different manner. We had a great teacher for Kindergarten. As the year comes to a close we are crossing fingers that his first grade teacher will be as understand when he reaches her class. My other son starts school this year and the baby is walking and has taken to head butting daddy and mommy cause he thinks its funny. Three very different manuals are being written. lol

  9. You are right on – there certainly is no manual for parenting. The trick seems to be a lot of trial and error and as long as we are open to learning from what didn’t go well, we make progress in being the parents our children need.
