Once upon a time………………………and lived happily ever after!!

Haven’t we all grown up with our favourite fairy tale characters?  As tiny tots, we enjoyed being read out a fairy tale. Just like the angel in the story who turns a magic wand, we were transported into a world of fantasy! Be it the mystic charm of the old world, the huge castles, the wicked step mother, the magic potion, the handsome prince, all the tales had a magical element to it.

Fairy tales are a genre of literature. They generally take the essence and characteristics of the place where they originate. Children all across the globe have grown up listening to the innumerable fairy tales. Many of them have been enacted in school as drama, made into movies which have gone on to become block busters.

 

Long long ago, once upon a time,

Abracadabra, the doors opened,

far away in the mythical land,

to the kingdom of fairy tales!

 

A land of mysteries and magic,

gnomes and goblins,

fairies and witches,

beauty and the beast!

 

The alchemy of fantasy and illusion,

made a potent tale ,

which had the power to,

enchant, impress and fascinate.

 

In the classic figment of emotions,

the essence that ensued,

the victory of the good over the evil,

and all lived happily ever after!!

  1. Blue beard. I was scared of the part where his wife finds a closet full of dead bodies (the bodies of his ex wives)
    Three Little pigs, snow white, Rumpelstiltskin, and many more 😀😀

        I still like reading tinkle, champak and gokulam. Though they are not fairy tales, there is something magical about those comic books 🙂 And, Indian mythological stories from Amar Chitra Katha 🙂

      4. Oh, I am so glad that there is someone like me. We grew up reading tons of AMAR chitra katha, tinkle ,chandamama, champak, and I still enjoy reading them. It just transports me back to my childhood 😇

      5. 🙂🙂🙂 me too. I had a sack full of them, my mum gave it to my nephew who stays in USA. He still reads them. He says he’s read it almost a 100times and yet he’s never got bored of it. 😀😀

      7. 🙂🙂🙂 you are very lucky R. The kids these days, they only know to play fruit ninja and candy crush. Hard to find kids who love reading books. 🙂
        Except for one nephew, none of my cousins or their kids read books. I am the only child and my parents used to go to work, so during vacations, all I had was books for company and I loved it. 😀

  4. Tinkle, Tintin(Captain Haddock), Amar Chitra Katha, Gokulam, Enid Blyton’s, though not fairy tales, made my childhood a wonderful one. I go back to them whenever I have a problem, it relaxes the mind and bang! I came with a solution. Through your article, Radhika, you made us re-live our childhood. Thank you.

  7. Fairy tales are always fascinating Radhika . There was a time when we read them and then cherishing those memories and transferring the fascination to our children . Fantastic post and poem, loved it .☺👌

  15. Reading comics of Amar Chitra Katha. Alice in wonderland..Panchtantra ..Tenali Rama were prominent of my favourites …so nice of you Radhika Di to bring back those sweet memories

  19. Beauty and the Beast has long been one of my favourites. But I found a new love for fairy tales after studying some of their origins during the Children’s Literature part of my degree. It seems that we just keep on updating fairy tales to suit the moral message we want them to carry for the new generation.

  23. Even now I enjoy reading a fairy tale, however, Rupunzle is one which I can see a zillion times over. My father used to bring audio cassettes of Little Red Riding Hood and Jack and the Bean Stalk. To this day I can hear the giant’s wife singing “Run Run Run, Run Fast Run, Quickly down the bean stalk.’ Now my children sing the same but unfortunately the joy of listening or reading and painting a picture in your mind’s eye has died down with movie adaptions of the same!

    1. Oh I too loved Rapunzel, and always wished to have hair as long as hers, which unfortunately I never did have
      😦 . Times are changing fast and so are the means of reading and assimilating. I guess today’s generation likes visuals more. So I guess it is more animation, movies and picture books for them.

  25. Wonderful post mam as always. My most favourite fairy tale is elves and the shoemaker. I have done a sketch of it lately😊😊 and all the fairy tales are interesting to read. I read twinkle comic books too.

  26. I loved fairytales as a child. Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs was one of my favorites. Fairytales are still fascinating and have a magical aura about them. Thank you for bringing this post back, Radhika, and thank you for joining in.
