Birthday gift!

Gift-to-self

Our arrival into this beautiful world  must have been a momentous occasion for our family. The world into which we announce our arrival with our cry, but which brings so much elation to our family. It is a time for them to celebrate and rejoice, to revel and revere this new bundle of joy that almighty blessed them with. The day becomes special for the rest of our life.

As kids we all look forward to our birthday each year. The party, the presents, balloons, festoons, friends, the new dress ….all so perfect! The games at the party, passing the parcel, treasure hunt, balloon games, each year something new to go with the theme. How excited we are, to plan for the party and all the paraphernalia associated with it. The frenzy of opening the gifts is the highlight of the party!

The thought that struck me was, while receiving birthday gifts is a happy time for us, do we give ourselves any gift for our birthday too? Gifting ourselves can assume many forms. From learning to appreciate small everyday moments of joy, developing more positive intangible qualities, learning a new skill, exercising our will power, stepping outside our comfort zone,  there are plenty to choose from. Imagine how much one would have grown not only in physical aspects but as a person.

So this time for my birthday which just went by sometime back, I have promised myself a gift of a fitter me. Exercising my body and mind is my focus for the coming year. Hope I will be elated with my makeover by my next birthday!

Ask yourself the best gift you would like to give yourself. Let it play often in your mind. Focus on the answers you hear. Work towards its realisation and soon you would be pleasantly surprised to meet a new and better “You”!

Daily Prompt – Surreal

I left my friends in their slumber world and trekked along the path. I hadn’t driven miles into nature to miss the beautiful sunrise. I was happy I took that decision, for the sight that welcomed me was surreal. The twilight was fading away to make way for the golden rays of the sun seeping in through the misty landscape. The crimson rays enveloped and caressed the entire panorama with all its love and warmth. The bird’s chirp added a melody to the graceful sway of the dew drops on the leaves. My heart fluttered to the silky touch of the petals dancing in gay abandon in the morning breeze. I watched the meandering butterflies whispering secret messages to the flowers. I sat there in a trance, mesmerised by the magic of the mystical morning. A sense of euphoria engulfed me as I marvelled at the handiwork of nature!

The bet is to watch a horror movie versus a romantic one. I am so confident of winning the bet with my friend that I do not think twice before agreeing to the same. Alas, now I curse my luck on losing the bet. I am compelled to watch a horror movie in the cinema with her. The thought is already giving me jitters and sleepless nights. Donning a brave facade, I accompany her. The movie has a sinister touch to it. Somehow I manage to sit through most of it.  As the climax unfolds, I can literally hear my own heart pounding. Trepidation grips me. I am petrified and surrender to complete panic and fear.

Stranded in the woods

eerie sounds sends forth shivers

amidst the total darkness

ghoulish costumed skeletons emerge

my scream pierces the  silence of the theatre!

प्रफुल्लित रात – Night’s Blush

Behind the evanescent shadows

the rays of the sun bid adieu to the day

which left a trail of vermilion hue

as if a blushing bride under a veil

birds flying back to their nests

playing a chirpy  musical band

the horizon garnering to welcome

the expansive night sky

with the glittering stars

who were the twinkling guests

coy, demure and smiling

the moon unveiled a glimpse of her blushing face

her radiant light left all in awe

marching ahead, the groom Mr. Cloud

embraced his beloved in his arms

they spent the night cradled in love

at dawn the moon left for her husband’s abode

which was on the other side of the earth!

festive mood transcends

brightens the dark autumn night

with sparkling joy amidst families

luminous lamps radiate a golden aura.

Wishing all my blogger friends a very Happy Diwali!

She froze when she saw Jim point the gun at her, “That’s why I chose it!”
