The broken arm!

In response to the daily prompt : Broken

That sunny noon

I heard myself croon

Cycling along the path

after a long bath

Friends and I fret

arguing over a bet

Agreeing to treat

the one who beats

To some ice cream

by the stream

Thus began the race

I tried to keep pace

The road had a bend

as I began to descend

Not wanting to lose out

I furiously pedalled about

Crash! bang! echoed the sound

as I landed on the mound!

Bruised legs, a broken arm

sending all into an alarm

All for some ice cream

by the stream!! 😦

The perfect plan!

Samantha would always seek solace in this quaint house amid the hills. It helped her untangle the cacophony of thoughts. But today she needed the peaceful environment to carefully lay down her plan. She could not take any chances. It had to be a fool proof one!

Final Countdown!

In response to’s weekly writing challenge #143, to use the following 5 words or their synonyms in a poem or fiction.

On the verge of touching base,

at the final destination of life,

I wait for the whistle to blow,

my gaze drifts across the celestial heaven.

As the soul readies to embark

into the  realms of the unknown,

the mind takes a walk down the road,

on the journey so far.

The memories kindle

a happy contented smile

that illuminates my heart!

Tanka – Rat Race!

In response to Colleen’s weekly tanka challenge #81, to use the prompt words Hurry & Last synonymously.

rat race

Between dawn and dusk

instant gratification

soul trapped in rat race

triumphant at finish line

but, life forgotten to live!

The present fades through the eons

reopening the doors , thoughts drift in

embraced by reminiscent recollections

images linger before the eyes

echoes with the laughter of happy times

a fragrance of sublime warmth

impregnates the air

along with some

remnants of the dark days too

under the musty cobwebs of time

the mind meanders back into the alleys

clings on to those experiences

be it coated with a tinge of bitterness

or laced with wistful moments,

for everything that passes

leaves behind memories

unique and special to each one

intricately woven into timeless treasures!!

Summer Heat!

In response to Secretkeeper’s writing challenge # 142,  to use the 5 prompt words below in a poem or fiction.

In the canvas of a molten mirror

the livid sun blazes like an inferno

reflecting on the city, with its intense ire

the green grass and blue water, all dry

under its harsh umbrage.

The mute trees stand still

thirsty birds circle under its canopy

the cicada’s rant echoes, as the mercury soars

sweaty humid brows drip into a rill

children indulge in indolent play indoors.

Scorched souls with sunburned faces

wait for the summer to wane

their imploring eyes fervently look up

for some wisps of grey clouds

to shower some pearly white gems!

Please briefly share your personal background?

Daughter of an Air Force Officer, I am the eldest of three siblings who travelled across India accompanying dad on his postings.

Professionally I am a certified accountant technician.

Post marriage and kids life was busy, with home and kids demanding my attention and time.   Working as a teacher for five years was a wonderful experience. I was not very keen to work full time as our kids were growing up and I felt that one parent needed to be home. My husband’s work schedule is quite…

ripples of the warm  sunshine

permeate the emerald waters!

Draped in a white satin gown,

beauty reigns supreme

in the sheer raging fall !

The tired body and mind

exhausted in mundane chaos

The Silent Witness!

In response to Sue’s Thursday photo prompt # Avenue

Use the image below as inspiration to create a post on your own blog… poetry, prose, humor… light or dark, whatever you choose.

In robes of fresh greens

the trees stand in perfect sync

a witness to the generations grow

walking hand in hand under its canopy

privy to their candid conversations,

wary of intimate moments of solitude

holding on to  the myriad untold secrets

lending a silent ear to the

cries of the grieving souls.

The cool breeze whispers

heralding in new seasons,

nostalgic memories gently

thawed by the warm sunshine

to create new ones!

The starlit night sky..

Living in the city, I am used to the harsh glare of the neon lights. Above the bright lights, the night sky paints such an insipid, dull picture in monochrome.  The stars seem to be in hiding under a blanket of a smoky veil. They fail to sparkle to their full potential. I always felt that the star studded night sky could only be seen in movies or books. But this picture changed a few years back. Let me recount that sparkling beauty of the starry night I witnessed.

A few years ago, we had been to a temple located in the interior parts of Karnataka. Nestled amidst the nature’s flora and fauna, the temple resonated a spiritual aura.  There were cottages for the visitors to stay. Basic necessities, religious fervour and simple food defined the life there. It gave one a chance to connect with the lord and disconnect with the chaos of the city 😉

We retired to our cottages in the night after a modest meal, simple yet so tasty. We had just gone to bed when the power went off. Being quite hot indoors, we decided to sit outside till the power came back.

Stepping out, the warm summer breeze, the natural woody fragrance of the forest trees, loud chirps of the insects nearby in the quiet of the night, greeted us. We sat there on the porch, being lulled in mother nature’s lap. The ambiance was such a contrast to the din of the city.  A look up at the night sky left us in awe.

Never had I experienced the beauty of the velvety blackness of the starlit sky. Like tiny glowing snowflakes they filled in the entire expanse. It appeared as if the sky had covered itself with a glittering blanket. Constellations which I had seen only in the books, were magically up in the sky.  I just sat there gazing at the shimmering night canvas, soaking in its brilliant beauty, enjoying the starry music and watching the celestial twinkling dance of the twinkling stars.

Time stood still under that beautiful starry night. The picture of the luminous starlit sky is still painted fresh in my mind. I am sure many of you have been lucky enough to witness the beauty of the starlit night sky. Do paint the picture through your words, of a mesmerising starry night you experienced.
