Last weekend I was watching a movie on television. A sentence the actor said, stayed in my mind.
“I had to lose my sight to see”.
This sentence carries an enormous burden of emotion and regret, isn’t it? It is not just his sight he is talking about, but also the guilt of turning a blind eye to everything around him, except himself.
Very often man becomes an island of “I”, totally self-centered, focusing only on himself, his growth and success. He turns away from people or things outside of his circle. He fails to experience life, beauty, happiness and is insensitive to the happenings around him.
We need to step out of the cocoon of conceited attitude that we have developed for ourselves, for when we look back, we see nothing but a reflection of bitter remorse.
Before it is too late, we need to channelize the collective brilliance of the human intellect, to shift its focus to more humane approach to make this “world and us”, better!
So, it’s time to pause,
amble across the green grasslands
gather the scattered emotions,
collect our thoughts,
walk away from the thorns of illusionary success,
reinforce the root of disintegrating values
feel the allure of nature’s grandeur,
weed out the toxic prejudices
bask in the warmth of familial love
rise above man made boundaries
exhibit a spirit of kindred brotherhood
infect humanity with a happiness bug
indulge in kindness
endeavor to respect the environment
listen to the whispers of the soul,
to enjoy a life well lived,
and leave behind a habitat
for generation next, to breathe!

Perfect elucidation, R. How that one sentence has linked into a chain of thoughts – impressive. Your mind’s eye is focused in the right place.

Many thanks N. It happens doesn’t it? One sentence triggers a chain of thoughts or memories .

True that. I find it intriguing how the subconscious routes thoughts and memories to a place many a times far removed from the originating prompt. That routing itself makes an interesting study of what lies deep in our psyche. If you understand my gibberish…😅

True words of man being selfish and not bothered about anyone nor even the environment destroying it left right and centre. Such a fantastic poem. Mystical poem, Radhika. Too good😊😊😊😊👍👍👍👍

Love this inspirational piece!! Certainly it’s our duty to protect our surroundings and pass on a healthier earth to our new generation and this chain starts with a sanitized me- both emotionally and psychologically!! Well done Radhika 😊

Thanks so much Daisy. ” Sanitized me”….love that phrase and that’s exactly what we need to do. Else the coming generations would never forgive us.

Reminds me of one of the character in Mahabharata. Gandhari mother of 100 kauravas and 1 daughter, blindfolded her eyes to be compatiable to her husband king Dritrashtra who was born blind.
The difference between the two was Dritrashtra cursed this as deficiency and lived in a shell of greed for the power.
Gandhari on the other hand acquired the condition as her duty.
We can have our choices and circumstances, but how we live with them and reflect the impact on the world around us, is ones own perception.
Very well written Radhika. Looking forward to lot more.

Absolutely Amit. You have put across your point with an apt example. We have ample choices in life to chart our path . Halfway through we may realise that the path chosen is wrong, and may have to alter the course. But again that realisation is a growth to steer us on the right course.
Thanks Amit.
