I lost myself!!

A quarter of a year gone by,

since the lock down

Now, stay home bound

is the new normal,

I see no signs of any change soon,

work from home the latest mantra.

Parties, movies and holidays

seem things of yore

eating out, no more…

My dresses, jewelry idling

in the closet,

without an occasion to flaunt them.

The shoes and sandals thoroughly bored,

let out a yawn

under a cozy blanket of dust

cosmetics and accessories, untouched

lie on the dresser, losing sheen

nearing their expiry date.

I observe them from afar,

wondering ,

will they ever see

the light of the day?

These days my

pyjamas and tees are over worked

my hair seems always messed up,

office, chores, cooking and cleaning

consume me all day long.

The mirror screamed today

when I tried to look into it,

Oh no! who is that staring at me?

Where have I lost myself?

I wondered!!

  1. Such a reflective poem, and well put too. The lockdown and the new social situation has really changed things. Its really fascinating how fast the things can change.
The poem had a nice flow too, well done 🙌

  2. Wow what a beautiful and true poem, Radhika. We all are in the same boat from the time this corona has taken place and your picture has fit like a tee. Awesome only changing nighties day after day and all clothes and jewelry is being worn by our closets.

  3. This is so relatable. Though I’ve been going to office for nearly two months, most of my dresses have not seen the light of the day. I loved this one. I’ve missed reading your work. I’m glad you’re back 😊

    1. Oh…hope there is adequate care being taken at your work place. Take care Shweta. Thanks for stopping by. I have been posting very regularly. Maybe my posts didn’t appear on your reader.

  4. When I look in the mirror these days, I see the self-inflicted haircut. The salons are now open again, but I am afraid to venture there.

No need for lip gloss under a mask!

You have captured the situation so whimsically in your well-written poem!

  5. I think this is the reality of every man and woman. For those who will survive, will have stories to tell the next generation. Let’s pray that we get the vaccine soon.🙏

  6. This resonates with me. I miss not being able to wear my getting out and around clothes. I finally broke down and bought some new stay at home clothes just so I would feel better about myself.

You captured the situation so well in your well-written piece. Thank you for joining in.

  7. I do hope, once the pandemic is over ( if it will be ever over), people will awaken to a more conscious living and understanding and practice it every day. I believe there is not a way to the normal back than…. we must evolve and learn from mistakes and be willing to correct them in our daily life.

  8. This is one boat – nay – an Ark, that we are all sailing in, R! Yesterday itself I was looking at a particular business suit that I wore for a meeting in Feb and wondered whether I would wear it again in this calendar year! I guess we will adapt to this new abnormal only to tide over it, but forget all hardships as soon as we are clear of the pandemic.

  11. Life has come back in a full circle. Our parents used to spend money only on necessary things. Now we are also buying grossery and vegetables only. Till 3 months back sometimes 48 hours were less to finish work. Now we have all the time.
Only tiny tots are happy as they are free with the unnecessary burden of school bag .
