Sunshine Friends!

Their guffaw resonates across the neighborhood,

there is never a dull moment with them.

They eclipse shadows of gloom beneath their laughter,

leaving behind a trail of cheerful confetti.

Lacing up conversations with a sparkle of humor,

they are true bearers of the happiness contagion.

Some friends carry sunshine in their hearts,

lighting up the ambience, with their spirited mirth.

Oh! But such friends come in limited editions,

you are truly blessed, if you have one!

Will we see a better tomorrow?

Once upon a time,

the view from my window was utopian,

verdant promises swayed beyond the lake,

sanguine blossoms wafted scented felicity.

The flux of time flits by,

man’s indomitable spirit to progress

transforms the landscape with high-rises,

clouded by a myopic vision of future.

My spectacles are befogged by the virulent grey,

I put on the rose-tinted glasses, with a prayer

that his intelligence befriends wisdom

sparing the children of tomorrow, fumes of slow poison.

The Drip Fiasco!

Plop! plop! Incessant acoustics played on a loop,

disturbing me from my reverie.

The slow dribble dampened my poetic rapture in a dreamy paradise.

Cursing the abrupt end to my honeyed trance,

I got out of bed, to check on the sound.

A leaky faucet was the culprit, orchestrating a clamant drip.

My many attempts to tighten the tap seemed futile,

as it boasted of an obstinate temperament, refusing to relent.

Sighing,

I rummaged through the tool box to look for a spanner.

Still in a slumberous state and an agitated mood,

Blabbering, growling, snorting, prattling to myself,

I foolishly unfastened the tap, in my haste to set it right.

And lo, torrents of water gushed out in a tempestuous roar,

exploding into the silent night, with rumbling ire.

Drenched in the powerful deluge, I quivered in a frenzy.

After many failed attempts, I managed to fix it back.

The livid tap gave out an angry gurgle, once again.

I beseeched it to stay calm, till I located a plumber the next morning,

wading out of the pool of water, inundating the kitchen floor,

In utter helplessness!

A Date with Idleness…

The pandemic locked us up with our gadgets, turning life into virtual reality. As the undulating waves of the virus ebbed, we decided to get out of home. “No gadgets!” shrieked my friend and added, “Bring no book, for this one day we’ll give to the idleness!” We drove on without a destination in mind.

A couple of hours later, we found ourselves in a cloister canopied under a dense vegetation.  Alighting, we walked on the muddy trail. The lazy afternoon sun crowned the blades of the tall grass. Piquant organic scents aroused our olfactory senses. We lay there, on the earthy bosom looking at the yonder beyond without a sense of time. The horizon tinged to a mellow tangerine, before melding into inkiness. We were glad, that we breached the confines of the mundane, to be on a date with indolence, fully rejuvenated!

Word count :144

This week Ingrid from dVerse Prosery, challenges us to write a piece of prose in 144 words ,using some given lines of poetry. The prompt lines have been taken from Wordsworth’s poem, Lines Written at a Small Distance from my House:

And bring no book, for this one day
We’ll give to idleness.

Becoming…

Contemplative solitude atop

the many mountains I scale,

 unravel humbling experiences.

Overcoming the challenges of the

jagged precipices of life

liberates my imprisoned mind.

The trepidations and apprehensions

of the arduous ascent, give way to

a symbiotic balance between the body and mind.

I acknowledge my growth from beneath to beyond,

and appreciate the journey of “becoming”!

Photography – Interesting Objects!

This week Patti from Lens Artist Challenge #182, invites us to post pictures of interesting objects.

Life at times amuses us with very interesting things, perspectives, formations or man made creations. If we pause to look around, we will find a plethora of unusual objects around us from our everyday life or travels, that pique our interest.

Anything that excites me for any reason, I will photograph, not searching for unusual subject matter but making the common place unusual. ” Edward Weston.

I have brought together a few clicks from my archives which catch the eye with their fascinating allure.

These natural boulders seem to have perfected the balancing act with élan.

The creation above and below both were clicked at Jawahar Kala Kendra, Jaipur, India. What story, was the artist trying to convey here? Would love to know what you think of them.

A glass artist at work, in the process of creating a spectacular piece!

The famous bronze statue by Gerhard Marcks depicting the “Town Musicians ” located in Bremen, Germany. It was erected in 1953.

Such an inviting seating…at a café in Goa!

Sumptuous soup… The Italian Bread Bowl!

My son’s creative creation before taking it across for the food stall, at the school’s annual carnival!

The king of Street Food – Pani Puri*

Deep fried crepes, all puffed up crisp,

with a fragile vulnerable layer on top.

A gentle tap of the finger on it,

pierces and prepares it to welcome

an amalgam of mashed potatoes, boiled chickpeas

drenched in a pool of minty tamarind water,

seasoned with an array of emotional spices.

In goes the loaded globule, into the salivating mouth

waiting in earnest, to experience zesty sensations.

The eclectic mix of spicy, acidic flavors seep in,

 the palate savors delectable ecstasy.

Appetence vanquishes control,

the relay of gorging on this gastronomical indulgence continues,

till it reaches a gustatory nirvana!

The Unending Wait…

Dusk paints the horizon with amethyst hues

chirpy birds flock back to their nests.

In anticipation, I scamper to the fields

to peer across the setting sun,

drenched in impassioned hope

to see my father’s silhouette walking back,

from the war.

I dream of him all the time

lifting me up, in his strong arms,

tickle my funny bone,

regale me with his stories of valor.

But like every other evening, I walk back alone,

distraught.

I imprison my tears beneath the disguise of fortitude,

so that my defeated eyes never let them out.

People say I am the daughter of a brave soldier!
