Y- Yugen!

A to Z challenge 2022 – Nature and I

Yugen (noun)

Yugen is an important concept in traditional Japanese aesthetics. There are moments in life, where words seem inadequate to describe your experience.

Yugen means a profound awareness of the universe that triggered feelings too deep and mysterious for words.

“To watch the sun, sink behind a flower clad hill. To wander on in a huge forest without thought of return. To stand upon the shore and gaze after a boat that disappears behind distant islands. To contemplate the flight of geese seen and lost among the clouds…” Zeami Motokiyo

Today on this penultimate day of the challenge I take you along me on a morning walk in the woods, where I experienced a wondrous feeling of Yugen.

The walk along the muddy trail of the forest was a revelation. An amalgam of verdant tan, the trees breathed an organic scent. The verdure paradise was slowly awakening from its deep mossy slumber into a moist misty morning.  The raw breeze and foggy veil had an mystic allure to it. Their entwined roots and strong embracing boughs were a testimony of their primeval connect.

The twigs crunched under my feet as I ambled along the wet brown path.  The woody heaven came alive to the sounds of the forest. The chirps of the avian, scuttling rabbits, rustling foliage, scurrying squirrels, hissing reptiles, trill of the insects, sounds of arboreal creatures and the cry of the wild, all playing at their own rhythm yet orchestrating a perfect harmony.

The ambience of the forest stopped the clock. I lost myself into her welcoming arms. Under the canopy of a green palette, I inhaled the freshness of natural wonder, soaked in the beauty of flora and fauna, admired the medley of diversity, and listened to the pure and earthen tales of the wilderness. What started as a mere amble, culminated in an soul stirring experience which was hard to put down in words.

Walk in the Woods!

The walk along the muddy trail of the forest was a revelation. The sky kissing trees breathed an organic scent. The verdure paradise was slowly awakening from its deep mossy slumber into a moist misty morning.  The raw breeze and foggy veil had a mystic allure to it. Their entwined roots and strong embracing boughs were a testimony of their primeval connect.

The twigs crunched under my feet as I ambled along the wet brown path.  The woody heaven came alive to the sounds of the forest. The tweet of the birds, scuttling rabbits, rustling foliage, scurrying squirrels, hissing reptiles, trill of the insects, shrieks of arboreal creatures and the cry of the wild, all playing at their own rhythm yet orchestrating a perfect harmony.

The ambiance of the forest stopped the clock. I lost myself into her welcoming arms. Under the canopy of a green palette, I inhaled the freshness of natural wonder, soaked in the beauty of flora and fauna, admired the medley of diversity, and listened to the pure and earthen tales of the wilderness. I enjoyed my solitude in the company of nature.

Lost in the Wilderness…

In response to The Sunday Whirl, #443 to weave the above words together.

The trek into the woods with friends went totally awry. The adventurous I, ventured off limits. The tumble down the slope, left me bruised and alone.

Lost in the wilderness, I tried to figure a way out. The air reeked of pungent forest smells. Howl and cries of the wild beasts echoed. Dark foreboding clouds loomed over the dense canopy of trees. The silhouettes seemed to draw an eerie imagery against the darkness. My heart was pounding loud. I felt something move slyly to my side and let out a shriek. Taking to my heels, I turned and ran far. Panting and gasping for breath, I eased my steps a bit.

Suddenly I felt a piercing pain grip through my arm. I could feel blood trickling down. Fear and panic gripped me. I felt myself losing control, when a pair of strong arms held me before I slipped into a dark void….

The eerie night!

Lost in the wilderness

with no clue ,where to head

tar grey clouds brood over

damp forest floor, exudes an acrid stench

branches draw monstrous silhouettes

menacing winds croon a forbidding song

ravenous howls grow louder

a sign of looming danger

eyes move furtively in the dark

failing to find a road to escape

the probing hand feels a slimy creature

sending shivers down the spine

the screams for help, echo back

the soul held captive by fear

drenched in sweat, completely paralyzed.

“Cut”! comes in the directors call,

Smiling, with a thumbs up,

A great shot, in one take!

Pack up! He shouts!!

The Last Shoot!

Write a story for the above prompt photo in 100 – 150 words (+ – 25).

Here is my story:

Raj and Jai moved into the cottage away from the maddening city crowd. Both were veteran wildlife photographers and found the cottage close to the jungle perfect for their work. Both of them were excited about the new series they were working on, for the Wildlife channel.

They had worked on many projects together. This was their last one, after which Raj was moving to the US to join his son.

The next morning, Raj woke up early to saunter around the place. The earthy smell of the forest, the leaf carpeted path, calls of the animals echoing, he found the beauty of the forest comforting . He was at peace with himself.

Raj’s bloodcurdling scream shattered the peace of the morning. Rushing out Jai saw Raj lying at a short distance from the house. Sprinting across, he saw a venomous reptile slither away into the bushes.

If only they had listened to the local, who had forewarned them not to stay in that cottage, as it was haunted!
