Are you in the Present?

The mind travels without an agenda

awakening the memories of the past, from its slumber,

hijacking our today,

into the unknown fears of the future.

Oscillating between the two ends of the spectrum

our “now” sacrificed at the altar of this tussle.

The key is just a simple choice we make

from the millions of moments that weave our life

lease not, your present, to yesterdays and tomorrows

for they are tenants who only add heartaches and anxieties.

In this transient world, all that matters is “Now”,

for the living in the present is the best gift to self!

The Makeover Gift!

In response to Helene’s weekly challenge What do you see ?

blue-present_300

I look at myself in the mirror of life.

Unhappy with what I see,

A makeover is the call of the day

Lets begin, I tell myself!

To cleanse the body and soul

I learn to forgive and forget,

snip off my inflated ego ,

In the bargain realize

I have lost a few kilos.

Indulge the soul in a meditative spa

Cleaning all the grime of pride

I dab it with a layer of charity .

Choose an attire of floral sunshine

line my eyes to see good in others

highlight my face with smiles that travels miles

seal it with positive affirmations

color my lips with sweet talk

accessorize the look with loads of gratitude

perfume it with divine fragrance of prayers

put on the shoes to lead me on a righteous path.

All set,

I present myself with the gift of now.

Ah! Just love this makeover

I have gifted myself,

I bask in the compliments

life showers on me!

Ring in the new…..

The pages of the calendar turns swiftly.  The year draws to an end and it’s time to get a new one. It is the time of the year when the mind rummages through the moments that became memories, some treasured while others best forgotten. It muses over the accomplishments and debacles, sets new resolutions and targets, assures itself of an improved and better version of itself in the coming year by gifting itself an optimistic outlook, burying all bitter moments. It wants to start on a clean slate and script a life full of colorful hues with bold strokes of positivity infused with a perfect blend of zeal, learning and enlightenment.

May the coming year, unravel treasured moments,

May life surprise us in beautiful ways,

May we gift ourselves the gift of living in the “Present”,

May we all discover a new facet of our personality,

May the New Year usher in brotherhood, love and peace in the world.

A very Happy 2018 to one and all ❤ !

Birthday gift!

Gift-to-self

Our arrival into this beautiful world  must have been a momentous occasion for our family. The world into which we announce our arrival with our cry, but which brings so much elation to our family. It is a time for them to celebrate and rejoice, to revel and revere this new bundle of joy that almighty blessed them with. The day becomes special for the rest of our life.

As kids we all look forward to our birthday each year. The party, the presents, balloons, festoons, friends, the new dress ….all so perfect! The games at the party, passing the parcel, treasure hunt, balloon games, each year something new to go with the theme. How excited we are, to plan for the party and all the paraphernalia associated with it. The frenzy of opening the gifts is the highlight of the party!

The thought that struck me was, while receiving birthday gifts is a happy time for us, do we give ourselves any gift for our birthday too? Gifting ourselves can assume many forms. From learning to appreciate small everyday moments of joy, developing more positive intangible qualities, learning a new skill, exercising our will power, stepping outside our comfort zone,  there are plenty to choose from. Imagine how much one would have grown not only in physical aspects but as a person.

So this time for my birthday which just went by sometime back, I have promised myself a gift of a fitter me. Exercising my body and mind is my focus for the coming year. Hope I will be elated with my makeover by my next birthday!

Ask yourself the best gift you would like to give yourself. Let it play often in your mind. Focus on the answers you hear. Work towards its realisation and soon you would be pleasantly surprised to meet a new and better “You”!
