In Hope…

Life’s pedal moves on waiting for none,

O brother, the only sepia toned picture of us, is a treasure I cherish.

It conjures so many memories full of mirth.

The happy feet scampering across the neighbourhood, on hot summer noon

our buffoonery, inviting the ire of the old café owner.

With laughter echoing through the streets,

those growing up years defined unlimited felicity,

Until

miasmic bugle of war blew, bringing with it bloodshed

bombs bombarded destruction and mayhem.

My lachrymose deluge, drenched the rubble looking for you,

the throes of separation lacerating my soul.

After all these years, I still wait, in hope of your return…

The Homecoming…

The rusty hinges of the door creak a melancholia of emptiness

abandoned, a veiled gossamer of neglect envelopes it.

Ambivalent emotions embrace me in nostalgia,

I close my eyes, inhale the smattering scents of yesteryears

fragments of my childhood, resplendent with love and laughter fill me.

Fun filled times with playmates in the cart

wheel across the courtyard, echoing merriment,

driving through the narrow alleys, the many outings in the old car were so cherished

the ambrosial culinary delights from mom’s kitchen permeated my senses.

Itinerant lifestyle, kept me away for good,

night, seemed too dark for the family in waiting.

The once familiar surroundings, today seem distant

walls of my home, do not recognize me anymore.

The people have all gone, only memories linger on

Photography – Seen Better Days!

Lens Artist photo challenge # 168

This week’s host Tina invites you in exploring places and things that have seen better days!

Vagaries of time

tale of withering beauty

skeletal whispers

Back then, I am sure this typewriter typed at lightning speed, bringing out emotions on paper!

What a beauty she must have been in her hey days!

The green elixir today dies a slow death at the hands of man!
Ah, it must have dressed many a beautiful ladies back in time!
The primeval soul of the ruins, today holds many a secret within them!

And Forever…

A first dreamy date, basked in the

warmth of sunshine romance,

comes alive with the glint of scented vanilla,

that wafts with the fragrant scarlet red asters.

Drenched in crimson tides of passion

timeless whispers pen love sonnets

 heart-warming gestures, moor their soul

like wine, their bond matures with age.

Today the old radio plays a nostalgic song,

silver strands define the receding hairline,

toothless smiles brighten the twilight years

wrinkled hands tether to old pictures,

visit the boulevard of sepia toned memories.

Joyful reminiscence of the bygone seasons

unwinds a spool of snapshots

scripting their saga of eternal love.

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “more than a hundred.” Write your post inspired by something you have more than a hundred of in your home right now.

The moment I read this prompt challenge, my mind immediately thought of the photographs at home that fill the albums and adorn frames on the wall. I love clicking moments of today which make beautiful memories tomorrow. Of course, with the advent of digital technology, now my laptop is filled with them.

As I browse the old pictures, each picture enlivens a story of emotional delight. I harvest a bounty of nostalgia. The vintage sepia toned, the black and white or the glossy coloured ones bridge the present to the past. Sauntering on that bridge infuses the air with the fragrance of yesterday. The heart revels seeing the pictures unfold a saga of events that life witnessed. It is a wonderful way to bond with the family, reminiscing good old times, sharing some laughter and tears, teasing and ranting, setbacks and celebrations.

I love the company of photographs, for it captures moments to etch it in the heart for eternity.

Blur of life captured

 tapestry of memories

eternal imprints

When Adi introduced his best friend Jai to his bride Uma, they froze.

Recalling their chance meeting on a train journey where their eyes and heart embraced but  their words remained shy and muted. If only they gave their emotions a voice then, today would be a different story.

Letter count : 280
