In Hope…

Life’s pedal moves on waiting for none,

O brother, the only sepia toned picture of us, is a treasure I cherish.

It conjures so many memories full of mirth.

The happy feet scampering across the neighbourhood, on hot summer noon

our buffoonery, inviting the ire of the old café owner.

With laughter echoing through the streets,

those growing up years defined unlimited felicity,

Until

miasmic bugle of war blew, bringing with it bloodshed

bombs bombarded destruction and mayhem.

My lachrymose deluge, drenched the rubble looking for you,

the throes of separation lacerating my soul.

After all these years, I still wait, in hope of your return…

Succumbed…

Fingers intertwined; we etched our hearts together “forever” in the sands of time, only to be washed away by the tides of time,

the glowing embers of passion have died down to ashen grey

fiery exchange of words have replaced the romantic nights of cozy candle light conversations

once ardent lovers, today our bond lies fragmented

accusations seem to be a favorite pastime now,

the rift widens, with overtures of reconciliation negated

peace buried beneath the tirades of anger and deluge of tears

war is at the doorstep. What do you expect me to do?

our relationship is yet another casualty in the emotional battlefield.

The Unending Wait…

Dusk paints the horizon with amethyst hues

chirpy birds flock back to their nests.

In anticipation, I scamper to the fields

to peer across the setting sun,

drenched in impassioned hope

to see my father’s silhouette walking back,

from the war.

I dream of him all the time

lifting me up, in his strong arms,

tickle my funny bone,

regale me with his stories of valor.

But like every other evening, I walk back alone,

distraught.

I imprison my tears beneath the disguise of fortitude,

so that my defeated eyes never let them out.

People say I am the daughter of a brave soldier!

Water – Reality Check!

In response to Shweta’s 6 word story prompt #56 : Water

They can be read as individual stories or together as one. A grim tale with a strong message.

Wealth futile, if there’s no water.

Year 2050 – water most expensive resource.

Water wars…coming soon…trailers out.

My worst nightmare – an arid earth.

Each drop an elixir – save water.

War!

Another in the series of A to Z poems, where the words move alphabetically.  You can read the earlier one here. I have used “ex” for the letter x.  Could not think of an appropriate word beginning with it. If any of you can think of one, please share 🙂

Across boundaries conflicts descend

ember flames glow,

horrid incidents, jolts kids

lurid massacres numb peace,

quells rational solution

tension usurps violence,

war exhausts

yowl zillions!

War and terror reign supreme today

barbarous acts tarnish life

books painted with violent blood

the sun stands a witness

to a shriveled world

consumed by hate,

I, me, mine

evicts

love!

The blast!

In response to secretkeeper.net’s weekly writing prompt #119. The challenge is to use the 5 words given below (or their synonyms ) in a poem or flash fiction.

LOUD|WAR|JUMP|ESCAPE|RIGHT

The loud blast ripped through the calm of the city

deathly agonizing shrieks echoed far

innocent souls in a stupor, numb with fear

to soak in the effects of the gruesome bloodshed

shattered homes, dead smiles, painful cries

nothing seems right, to the frozen mind

the ghastly massacre leaves haunting images

lives, happiness and smiles, comes to a standstill

humanity plunges into an eerily gloomy silence!
