Cruising along, on match point, it was Roger Federer all the way. With just a point away from what appeared to be an easy win, suddenly it all changed to end in an epic win for the towering South African Kevin Anderson.
He snatched victory from Federer in a grueling four and a quarter hour match, to march into the semi-finals of the Wimbledon 2018. The final scores reading 2-6, 6-7, 7-5, 6-4, 13-11. Sadly Federer’s quest for ninth Wimbledon title was shattered.
Playing against a name like Roger Federer itself acts as a psychological barrier. To top it the crowd’s constant cheering for Roger, didn’t dampen the spirit of the gangly South African. He remained calm and determined all through this amazing thriller.
Kudos to Anderson for believing in himself and pulling off this sensational win, which I am sure he will cherish for a long time to come. A riveting match with some scintillating volleys and big serves.
Take a bow, Kevin Anderson!

There is simply so much to learn and imbibe from y’days QF match between Federer and Anderson.
Federer at 35-36ish is re-defining “age”, that too in a sport like tennis. Earlier the norm was 32-33 max for most players. At this age, he is still a defending champion for slams… In the age of power tennis, his game is a graceful glide and slide on court… Hardly has any opponent defeated him in straight sets, for such is his calibre…
Coming to Anderson, it’s was his never say die spirit and belief in himself that saw him come through from a 2-0 set deficit. He Simply continued playing to his strengths…

Agree with you Karthik. Federer is a player with immense style and grace. His game is a pleasure to watch. But unfortunately yesterday was not his day. Anderson exuded a great amount of calm, poise and some brilliant serves to finally snatch the match from the champion! In all an excellent game of tennis 👍

Yes I agree with your words, Kevin really played a fantastic game with so much calm and poise. He knew he was playing against the number one but did not lose his cool. Awesome game, Radhika. Do you know who won in Nadal’s game, Del Potro was also too good.

It reminds me of the match where John Mcenro toppled Bjorn Borg in a thriller when Borg a 5 time wimbledon champion reigned supreme. It was a long match and as a 13 year old, i have to leave the match on television which I watched at a friend’s place because it was already 10 in the night…those days, Radhika, the B&W TV was a luxury item and only to be seen in a a select houses 🙂

Yes I did, till it went to the tie breaker in the final set…. I hope Anderson recovers from his fatigue before the final….a marathon match it was, over 6.5 hrs!
